Face masks
Sandalwood is a natural astringent.
Turmeric is antiseptic and keeps spots in check, while
the fruit acid in orange juice clears blemishes.
The turmeric may strain the skin slightly, but this is
temporary and will clear after a few washes.
If you have sensitive skin and are worried about
staining, substitute the turmeric with geranium leaf juice (crush one leaf with
a little water, strain and use 1/2 tsp of the liquid), reducing the quantity of
orange juice by the same amount.
For an oily skin
1 1/2 tbsp sandalwood powder
tiny pinch (few grains) of ground turmeric
3 tbsp orange juice
Mix all the ingredients together and apply over the
face and neck, avoiding the eye area. Allow to dry, then rinse off with cool
water, without pulling the skin.
For dry skin
1 egg white
1 tsp honey
1 tsp full-fat cream
tiny pinch (few grains) of ground turmeric
Mix together all the ingredients and pat on to the
face and neck. Rinse off after 20 minutes.
Moisturizer for black spots caused by acne.
3/4 cup rose water
1/4 cup glycerin
1 tsp vinegar
1/4 tsp honey
Mask for scars:
Mash 1 banana and beat in 1 tsp olive oil.
Apply it on your face, and leave it on till it dries.
Repeat once a week.
For normal skin
2 tbsp milk powder
rose water to mix
tiny pinch (few grains) of ground turmeric
Combine the ingredients into a thick paste and apply
to the face and neck.
1-2 tsp turmeric
2 tbsp yogurt
1/2 tsp olive oil
1/2 tsp honey
1 tsp gram flour (besan)
Mix well all ingredients. Apply to face for 15-20 minutes. Wash off with
lukewarm water.
Leaves your face feeling fresh.
Facial scrubs recipes
According to Ayurveda, fenugreek seeds are a "miracle
spice". They rejuvenate the body and contain steroidal saponins that resemble
some of the body's sex hormones.
2 tbsp fenugreek seeds
1 tbsp plain live yogurt
Soak the fenugreek seeds in the yogurt for an hour,
then lend coarsely to a paste. Gently rub this on to the face and neck using
circular movements and wash off after 15 minutes.
Exfoliating scrub for normal skin
6 almonds
Milk to mix
Soak the almonds in the milk overnight. Blend together
coarsely the next morning and use all over the face in gentle circular motions.
Leave for five minutes, then rinse off with cool water.
Skin toners
1 cup finely grater raw cabbage
2 tsp rose water
Put the grated cabbage in a muslin square and squeeze
out the juice. Mix this with the rosewater and pat on to the face and neck.
Allow to dry, then rinse off.
