Dosa (South Indian Crepe)

Dosa is a famous South Indian crepe made from rice and lentil batter. You can easly make it at home. Learn how to make perfect Dosa from scratch with homemade batter.

Ingredients:

Makes 8

  • 1 cup semolina/rava
  • 2 tbsp rice flour
  • 2 tbsp wheat flour
  • 2 tbsp hot oil
  • 1 cup yogurt/curd
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • ½ tsp salt
  • about 1 cup water
  • ¼ tsp baking soda
  • oil for frying

How to Make Dosa:

  1. Blend 1 cup semolina/ rava to a fine powder in a blender or grinder.
  2. To a large bowl put 2 tbsp rice flour, 2 tbsp wheat flour and powdered semolina/rava.
  3. Add 2 tbsp hot oil (for crispiness) and mix well well.
  4. Add 1 cup yogurt, 1 tsp sugar, salt and mix well until a smooth lump-free batter is formed (about 2-3 minutes). Let it rest for 15 minutes helping rava to absorb water.
  5. Add ¼ tsp baking soda and mix gently.
  6. Heat the tava. Pour 1 tsp of oil. and pour the dosa dough and spread imedietely. 1 Cook. roast on medium flame until it turns golden brown.
  7. Scrape the dosa from sides and fold half.
  8. Dosa is great served with sambar and with chutneys.

Tip: The flour helps to make crispy dosa but adding more would spoil the its texture.
