Star Anise Tea

This aromatic hot beverage is flavored with star anise and cinnamon sticks. Both, black tea leaves and green tea leaves can be used. Star Anise gives the tea a little pungent, licorice-like flavor, balanced by wonderuf aroma of cinnamon. Star Anise (also called Chinese Star Anise) tea is great for cold as is used to treat respiratory infections. It alos treats nausea, constipation and other digestive issues.

Ingredients:

Serves 2

  • 3 cups boiling water
  • 2 tsp green tea or black tea loose leaves (or 2 tea bags)
  • 1 stick cinnamon, broken into pieces
  • 4 whole star anise
  • Honey, or sugar (to taste, optional)

How to make Star Anise Tea:

  1. Pour water to a saucepan, add cinnamon stick, star anise and bring it to a boil. Turn heat to medium low and cook for 5 minutes.
  2. Add tea leaves or tea bags (You can skip this part if you want plain only star anise and cinnamon tea).
  3. Cover with a lid and let it steep for 3-5 minutes.
  4. Strain the tea into serving cups, sweeten with honey or sugar and serve hot.

Tip:

  • You can use black or green tea bags.
  • Do not crush star anise and do not subsitutue cinnamon stick with ground cinnamon. The tea will loose its transparency.
