Cucumber, Tomato & Onion (Kachumber) Salad

This fresh Indian salad is made from chopped tomatoes, cucumber and onion, tossed together and flavored with Indian spices and few herbs. Adding green chili is optional. However you can spice this salad with some red chili powder if you like it hot. You can also pour any yogurt dressing or raita if you like.

Ingredients:

Serves 2-4

  • 2 medium sized tomatoes, chopped
  • 2 to 3 small sized cucumber, chopped
  • 1 medium sized onion, chopped
  • 4 to 5 mint leaves, chopped (few for garnish)
  • ¼ cup coriander leaves (cilantro leaves), chopped
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • a few lemon wedges for garnish
  • ½ tsp roasted cumin powder - optional
  • 1 green chili or ¼ tsp red chili powder - optional
  • black salt or rock salt or regular salt as required

How to make Kuchumber Salad:

  1. Wash and cut all the vegetables. Put them in a bowl.
  2. Add the rest of the ingredients. Leave few for garnish.
  3. Toss the salad well so that all the ingredients are mixed evenly.
  4. Check the seasoning and add more salt or lemon juice, if required. It can be sered as a side dish to any Indian meal.
